CMT Fluid is used as part of the California Milk Test (CMT) to detect cases of sub clinical mastitis in cattle and narrow down which udder is infected. The farmer must use CMT Fluid along side a milk test paddle.
The California Mastitis Test CMT, also known as the California Milk Test. CMT test liquid is an easy way for the farmer to indicate Somatic Cell Count (SCC) of milk. It works by using a reagent which disrupts the cell membrane of somatic cells present in the milk sample the DNA in those cells to reacting with the test reagent. Its very useful in detecting subclinical mastitis on-farm, using the CMT liquid along side the CMT test kit will give immediate result.
